what they don’t want you to know
Guns are good. Many have argued that firearms are neutral because they are simply inanimate pieces of metal; the person using the tool determines the outcome. Well, yes, this is true. However, let’s simply say then that guns are used far more often for good than evil. If this is the first time you’ve ever heard anything like this, it’s because anti-gun lobbyists have been grossly lying for decades; they have an agenda, and you are only presented with a twisted narrative fitting to their desired outcomes. In fact, there’s a list of things they don’t want you to know.
First, did you know that there are approximately over 3 million defensive uses of firearms every year? It’s scary to know that so many people have had justifiable reasons to protect themselves from serious threats; but, that means that the possession (yes, actively carrying a loaded weapon) prevented 3 million people each year from becoming victims of various forms of violence. Do you think those 3 million people should have a negative perspective of the tool that saved their lives?
But that’s not the only take away we should focus on in that statistic. According to reports from the CDC and FBI, in 2021 there were 48,830 gun related injuries nationwide; this number includes murders and suicides. Here’s what we know: far more people are protected by firearms than are injured by them. To do the math: over 61 times more are protected than hurt. Also, to keep understanding the math, we should also note that the overwhelming majority of defensive situations involving firearms do not require the use of lethal force—the gun acts as a significant deterrent. But, we have to understand the crime statistic further—the overwhelming majority of gun violence is better portrayed as gang violence. If gang-related incidents and suicides are removed from the CDC and FBI statistics, then, despite being a country with a huge number of guns, we have some of the lowest gun incidents in the world. We don’t have a gun problem; we have a gang and mental health problem.

Furthermore, there are certain commonalities between tragic events. Mass shootings occur in gun-free zones; criminals take advantage of unarmed people. And, bad guys intent on violence are always stopped by good guys with guns! Taking guns away from law-abiding citizens, creating anti-gun legislation furthering restrictions, will never stop those with a complete disregard for the law.
Don’t get us wrong: over 48,000 gun related injuries is unacceptable. We want that number to be zero! We do not want gang violence in our streets. And, if anyone is struggling with mental health, our hope is that they receive the help they need instead of giving in to suicidal ideations. But, we also do not want over 3 million people each year to be added to the list of victims. Perhaps if more people were trained and armed all the other atrocious statistics (sexual assaults, robberies, etc.) would be significantly reduced.
Get a gun.
